Everyone has different visualizations they use for meditating. In this blog series I’ll be detailing the visualizations I use for different scenarios or chakras.
The Third Eye Chakra
Let’s talk about the third eye chakra briefly before we get into the visualizations. The third eye chakra is located between your two eyes, where the eyebrows would meet. The color associated with this chakra is indigo, or a deep blue and purple mix. The third eye symbolizes intuition, clairvoyance, imagination, and truth. If you are experiencing nightmares, headaches, or vision problems, your third eye chakra could be out of balance.
It is important to keep in mind that chakras have two sides: a front and a back. The front of the chakra is your present and future, your conscious mind, your symptoms. The back of the chakra is your past, your unconscious mind, the root cause of your problems. While most people focus solely on the front of the chakra, the back is equally as important.
Why I Meditate On My Third Eye Chakra
People meditate on their third eye chakras for many reasons. I do this visualization to open my third eye chakra so that I can have more powerful dreams and connect to the other realms while I sleep. Since this happens infrequently on its own, I do this visualization to increase the consistency of making that connection through dreams.
To Begin: Grounding And Breathing
I always like to start with a grounding and a breathing exercise. I find a comfortable position that I could fall asleep in if needed. The goal of this visualization is not to fall asleep, but since I do it to enhance dreams, falling asleep is okay.
For grounding, I like to picture the parts of my body that are closest to the ground to be growing roots. They start small and grow bigger and deeper into the earth while I take deep breaths. While I breathe, I imagine that I am inhaling pure, white light. On the exhales, I release all of the bad energy I have been carrying in the form of dark or black light. I continue this visualization, letting the white light fill my lungs and run through my body and allowing myself to release any negative energy. When there is no black light left in your body you will see yourself breathing in and out the white light. I allow myself to stay this way for a moment, feeling the strong connection formed with the earth, until I’m confident my mind can begin to travel while I am safely rooted to this realm.
Note: It’s okay if you don’t get to the point where you are breathing out white light. It may take multiple meditations to cleanse your energy if you are trying this for the first time. Allow yourself to rest and take conscious note of how you feel after your first cleansing. These may seem like basic visualizations, but they are quite powerful. During my first time attempting to meditate, I visualized this energy transfer for almost an hour and never saw the white light come out. I continued coming back to this every night until I finally saw the white light and felt like I was in a good headspace.
Time To Start
Once I am grounded and cleansed, I start to visualize a pure indigo light filtering into my third eye chakra (from both the front and the back). A word of caution, do not try to channel too much energy too fast. This could be too draining for your body and cause fatigue or other complications. Allow the energy to slowly build to a level your body is comfortable with. Only you know what you’re capable of handling. Continue your breathing, visualizing the indigo light mixing and spreading through your body with the white light. I let this continue, very slowly, until my whole body is filled with bright indigo light, at which point I stop channeling any more energy in. I let this energy sit with me until I am ready to release it.
You could potentially take this energy and use it to astral project and reach other realms.
When I am ready, I allow myself to release the indigo light as I exhale each time. Little by little I let it fade until it is mostly gone, but the aura around your body will appear to have an indigo shade to it. You will have become something like a charged crystal.
At this time I jump into visualizing wherever it is I would like to travel while I dream. From here it’s up to you where you want to go. If you are using this visualization to enhance dreams, you may want to do this before bed so that you can drift off to sleep when you are done releasing the energy.
Things To Consider
It is important that you release the energy when you have finished your meditation. Carrying too much energy in your body can be very taxing. From experience, I channeled a lot of energy as a beginner and did not release it and I was unable to sleep for two days. The energy gradually left my body over that time but it was not fun being awake for so long. Take your time and listen to your body and its limits.
