My friend Jake gave me a tarot reading for this year 🙂 I was in a bit of a mood over everything I’ve been trying to do creatively and feeling a bit of a burn out hitting me. I wanted to know if I am on the right path for myself if I keep going the way I’m going. Jake used the Wild Unknown tarot deck (absolutely beautiful artwork).
The spread Jake used is called The Year Ahead Spread. There are 12 cards in a circle and a 13th card in the center. Each of the 12 cards represents a month in the year, with January at the top. The card in the center is the overarching theme for the year.
January: III of Pentacles Note: Remember your friendships and rely on them when you need them. I made a few new acquaintances online and reconnected with some friends I hadn’t talked to or seen in a while.
February: Daughter of Swords Note: Rely on your intuition. Be objective and honest with yourself. Jake said this is a good symbol of me and where I’m at right now. Especially creatively, I’m doing my best to be doing only the things that make me happy and nothing extra.
March: The Sun Note: Your intuition from February will generate a great creativity boost.
April: The Emperor Note: Pairs really well with The Sun. The big creativity boost you feel will bring a sense of purpose and stability.
May: X of Wands Note: A warning. If a heavy roadblock presents itself, it will be much better to take a step back and remove myself from the situation than to try to push through. Pushing through will be worse.
June: III of Cups Note: Meaningful relationships! Could be how I get past the roadblock I face in May.
July: The Empress Note: The birth of creativity and relationships, this is a great time to put my heart into everything I’m doing.
August: VII of Pentacles Note: A time of contemplation. “Is what I’m doing paying off?” My own judgement will determine how I answer that question. If I have a positive attitude about it, the answer will be yes.
September: V of Swords Note: A BIG warning. Selfishness leads to self destruction. I have to admit I thought about something right away that this could be referring to, but we’ll get there when we get there.
October: Temperance Note: Find the balance, stop what’s hurting you. A time for compromise.
November: Mother of Swords Note: This card represents “a woman who has been through a difficult time.” She represents intuition through experience. She is seen as a mentor and a wizened person. This seems to make sense based on the ups and downs that occur through the year.
December: The Lovers Note: A deepening of important relationships, often romantic.
Overarching Theme: IX of Pentacles Note: Enjoy the benefits of your hard work! Could also signify a promotion.
There were a few things that were thematic in this reading. Relationships was probably the biggest one that was repeated a few times, and I think it will be important to remember the people I have in my life and to keep them close through the whole year. I seem to always pull several of the same cards during my readings. The Lovers, The Chariot, the III of Cups, and the Mother of Swords seem to come up in almost every reading I receive and I was surprised I didn’t see The Chariot in there somewhere. I think overall this was a great reading and definitely clarified what’s in store for me this year so long as I keep doing what I know is best for me (while still keeping that V of Swords in the back of my mind to know when I’m overdoing it). I think it will be an amazing year creatively if a little up and down.
Have you gotten a reading done for yourself this year? Tell me about it in the comments 🙂
